Snacks and Appetizers   -   Calamari   by Matt Musselman

Description An easy, tasty appetizer (for those who are into tentacular food, anyway).
  • 1/2 lb calamari rings or strips
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 cups cooking oil
  • lemon juice
Directions Preheat oil in a frying pan.

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl or bag to make flour mixture. Coat the calamari pieces in the flour mixture, and fry, a handful at a time, for about 60 seconds, until they are golden brown.

Drain on a paper towel.

Sprinkle with lemon juice, to taste, and serve with marinara sauce, spicy mayonnaise, sweet or spicy chili sauce, or other sauce of your choice.
Serves 1 as entree or about 3 as appetizer
